Job Opening – One AmeriCorps VISTA Volunteer –SmartCoast
SmartCoastis now accepting applications to fill one AmeriCorps VISTA position to assist with communication and marketing. This position is fulltime and requires a 1-year commitment. It will begin in early 2013.
AmeriCorps VISTA is the national service program designed specifically to fight poverty.VISTAmembers commit to serve full-time for one year at a non-profit organization or local government agency, working to fight literacy, improve health services, create businesses, strengthen community groups, and much more. With passion, commitment, and hard work, you’ll create or expand programs designed to bring individuals and communities out of poverty.
Smart Coast is a regional organization serving the coastal counties of Alabama and promoting livable communities. Our Healthy Coastal Connections project is working to pilot the first daily Walking School Bus in Alabama, increase connectivity and make our streets safer for active transportation by promoting Complete Streets. Smart Coast also has a Sustainable Business program called Green Coast Council.SmartCoastis a fast paced organization and is looking for someone to fit that pace and be able to be autonomous and productive. This is a great opportunity to learn community organizing and learn new skills.
Responsibilities:
- Manage social networking sites and web content. The social networking sites include twitter, facebook, u tube and other developing segments of social communication
- Post regularly to Facebook and Twitter to increase readership and build the online community.
- Manage the Smart Coast website.
- Manage IT (Information Technology) needs of Smart Coast.
- Serve as organizational assistant in the launch of a Walking School Bus pilot program at an elementary school of 1000 students.
- Help maintain a database for Walking School Bus Volunteers.
- Help develop a PR/Communications Plan for the Walking School Bus Program.
- Research policy/programs as needed.
- Help with Fund Development as needed.
Qualifications:
- Extensive experience with computer/social marketing, public relations, and communications.
- Strong organizational management skills.
- Computer skills to include Microsoft Office Suite 2010; google docs, & database management.
- Proficient in management of photos, video taping and producing u-tube clips
- Excellent interpersonal and communications skills.
- Ability to work as part of a team as well as independently; excellent critical thinking skills.
- Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced work environment.
- Passion for healthy communities.
- Willingness to use personal laptop within work setting.
- Personal car or transportation needed.
Compensation:
Compensation is provided by the Corporation for National and Community Service through the AmeriCorps VISTA program and includes: Bi-weekly Stipend (approximately $11,136 per year); Federal Employee Health Benefits; and upon successful completion an End-Of-Service Education Award (approximately $5,500) or a stipend of $1,500.
