The Green Coast Council is a forum for exchanging management strategies and technologies between area businesses and industries that promote excellence in environmental management.

The goal of the Council is to encourage the adoption and implementation of sustainable business principles that promote excellence in the Triple Bottom Line or

  • environmental management
  • social equity
  • economic stability

The Council provides an opportunity for members to provide positive environmental leadership in the community.

Membership in the Council is open to businesses and individuals in the Gulf Coast area having an active interest in environmental management and sustainability.

Smart Coast initiated the Council as a result of its deep connections to the business community after the very successful Green Building Conference held in 2008 called the Green Coast Conference. Also, after the conference, a visit to Grand Rapids Michigan in 2008 exposed Smart Coast to a region focused on sustainable development which included a sustainable business forum, sustainable business degrees at local universities, and a city with goals aimed at gaining sustainable expertise in all areas of the community. This convergence of information and connections sparked this new initiative.
