Tedson Meyers – President
A retired Communications Attorney who was appointed by the President and confirmed by the Senate to serve on the District of Columbia City Council. Former Assistant to the Chairman of the FCC and Assistant to the Director of the Peace Corps, he is Chair of the Arthur C. Clarke Foundation – Washington, D.C., an organization devoted to the advancement of education in Aerospace and Communications technology. In 1977 he founded the National Center for Bicycling & Walking, which he chaired for over 30 years. He also serves on the Executive Council of AARP Alabama and is a member of AARP’s National Policy Council.
Beverley Allen – Vice President
Allen, Allen and Foster
Partner with her husband in the accounting firm, Allen, Allen and Foster. She is a charter member (1989) of the Daphne–Spanish Fort Rotary Club and served as President Elect for the 2007-2008 year. She has served as President and VP of Smart Coast Board and has managed the financial accounts for four years.
Catarina Echols- Treasurer
Goodwyn Mills and Cawood
Catarina works at Goodwyn Mills and Cawood. She is LEED AP and a board member of the Gulf Branch of the USGBC, and utilizes her diverse background in multidisciplinary projects, sustainable design, energy efficient concepts and water conservation practices. As a AIA commissioner with the Mobile Historic Development Commission, she developed the skills and the connections to become an effective preservationist and an active proponent of Smart Growth and Livable, Walkable Communities. She has a Masters in Architecture and a Masters in Geology. Additionally, she has comprehensive technical and research abilities.
Mary Kay Polys – Secretary
Administrator of Robertsdale HealthCare Center
The administrator of a Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Robertsdale and a partner in a software company for Assisted Living, she has been serving as Secretary on the Board. She brings a strong educational background in wellness, health, and disease prevention as well as strong skills in management and operations of health institutions.
Terry Plauche
Plauche, Johnson Landscape Architects
Landscape Architect/Planner in Mobile and sits on the Planning Commission for the City of Mobile, he is a Continuing Education Instructor of Low Impact/Green Site Design principles for realtors, engineers, and developers. He served on Mobile Mayor’s Smart Growth Committee.
Rob McElroy
Daphne Utilities
General Manager of Daphne Utilities in Daphne, Alabama, he is a graduate of the University of South Alabama and a licensed Civil Engineer in the State of Alabama. He serves on the Mobile Historic Development Commission and on the Board of Directors for the Baldwin County Economic Development Alliance
Carolyn Walthall
Recently retired from the Youth Leadership Program for the Eastern Shore Chamber, she is married to Julian Walthall, retired pastor of Spanish Fort Presbyterian Church. Carolyn helped create and direct several ongoing programs (youth leadership development, study programs at church, community telephone helpline and Murphy HS PTA).
Pam Ramos
Mobile Business Enterprise Center
Pam is Project Director of the Mobile Area Chamber of Commerce’s Minority Business Enterprise Center for the past 4 plus years. The Center helps minority companies to develop and grow. She has extensive knowledge of business management and operational strategic planning.
Elliott Lauderdale
University of South Alabama
Since 1993 he has been an Assistant Professor in Adult Interdisciplinary Studies at the University of South Alabama helping non-traditional learners design senior capstone projects, and teaching adult learning, community development and cultural diversity. Elliott is also very active in the Adult Higher Education Alliance, Mobile United, Eastern Shore Master Swimming, and the yearly Smart Coast Lulu’s Ride.
Nick Coulson
Nick trained as an architect in the U.K. and worked on low income and tenant co-operative housing projects for 20 years before marrying a Mississippi girl and moving to Baldwin County in 1991. He has worked for too many of the architectural firms in this area since. He has also taught architecture and landscape design to students as well as mechanical drawing at the high school level, and he has worked as a plan reviewer for Mobile County. He started the local US Green Building Council Chapter. He is now semi-retired and exploring drawing, jewelry making, kayaking and honeydoos, and trying to stay outside and not stare at a computer screen for more than an hour a day.
Dr. Harvey Joanning
Professor
Dr. Joanning trained in counseling with a specialization in marriage and family therapy and received his doctorate from the University of Iowa in 1973. He also has training and experience in life and earth sciences. He is currently on the faculty of the University of Iowa, Iowa State University, Mt. Mercy University, and the University of South Alabama. His specializations include marriage and family therapy, sex therapy, Alzheimer’s disease, theories and philosophy of science, research methodology, and brain science. He is a professional volunteer for the Alzheimer’s Association. He helps families learn to care for a member with Alzheimer’s disease and trains health care workers to assist families of Alzheimer’s patients. Dr. Joanning is also a professional volunteer for the American Tinnitus Association. He works with individuals struggling with “head noises” such as ringing or buzzing in their ears.
Chris Riley
Chris worked for Coca-Cola North America for 17 years, currently on LTD with the company. In his Corporate career, Chris worked as a Senior Sales Executive , selling to the U.S. Military. He is an active Paraplegic, with service dog (Tonya), injured in Aspen, CO, Spring 2009. Chris is currently a member of Fairhope’s PED/BIKE/ADA committee working in partnership with the City Council. Chris graduated from Western Kentucky University, is new to the Fairhope area from Atlanta and his hobbies include; fishing, photography, swimming and hunting & fishing.
